How large should my website be?
Determining the depth of your website will be a function of defining its scope and planning the project. MIB Development will assist you with this phase by providing a concise analysis of the options available within your budget.

For some entities a brochure-presence is acceptable. This type of website is not only very affordable, it allows your clients to gain instant access 24 hours a day to information about your company, products, services and promotions. Imagine being on the telephone with a potential client who is asking for more information... yes you can mail him or her a hard-copy brochure, but to instantly put this information in front of the client you simply need to direct them to your website address. Now that's taking advantage of today's technology!

The beauty of an internet presence is that it is revisable with a moments notice. Changes in the company, new or enhanced products or services, time-sensitive sales or promotions... all can be added to your website with seamless, instant implementation.

What's more, your site can grow as your company grows. E-commerce, responder forms, and integrated audio / video are only some of the options that can be added down the road.

How large should your website be? It is directly relative to a snapshot in time of your entity's current depth. Large or small, MIB Development will assist in analyzing your information to create the website of optimal size with an action plan for the future.

What does it cost?
The question of cost is, of course, one which must be addressed in the initial phases of your website development. The answer hinges on many variables, such as depth of the site, imaging, amount of information, product depth, advanced site elements, etcetera.

During the first phase of defining the scope of your website, you will be provided with a clear and definitive cost proposal for the entire project. It is only at this point, prior to the second phase of actually planning the project, that a realistic cost proposal can be given.

However, to answer the question here in general terms, one might anticipate a cost of approximately $1,000 to $3,000 for a basic brochure-type website, while a more in-depth site may range from approximately $4,000 to $6,000. Larger web sites containing large product databases, on-line shopping carts, secure ordering procedures, heavy use of Java and Flash elements, etc., may require initial budgets in the neighborhood of $10,000 on up.

These numbers should be used only to gain a general idea of the cost of website development. Naturally, some large corporations spend hundreds of thousands and even millions annually on their web sites, so it's easy to see that the cost is directly relative to the requirements of each specific project.

There is no cost for our initial consultation, which will help you determine what amounts to budget as you move ahead with your website plans.

What steps are involved?
Basically there are five phases of developing a quality website. These include:

  • Phase I includes defining the scope by gathering information, establishing goals, budget analysis, targeting the audience(s), establishing timeframes, etcetera.
  • Phase II includes planning the project by developing the architecture and framework of the site. This phase also includes developing content and firmly defining the various features of the site.
  • Phase III includes the design & testing of all of the various elements, resulting in the look and feel of the website. Testing ensures the site's functionality across various browser platforms, etc.
  • Phase IV includes the production & implementation of your website. In this phase the content is merged with the designed layout, graphics are placed, links are enabled, etc. This phase culminates in the launch of the site "live" to the internet.
  • Phase V includes maintenance & updates to the website, where new products or services are introduced, advance features are added, and most importantly the site is kept "fresh" with new information on a timely basis.

Keeping your website fresh
As you might imagine, keeping fresh and current information on your website is critically important. Most businesses would never run a two year old ad in the newspaper or mail an outdated announcement to their clients, yet many leave stale information on-line for months on end. This is the quickest way to turn-off users of the website, and we encourage you to consider an annual budget for maintenance and updates to your website. Remember... this is a 24 hours a day, seven day a week presence which portrays your company's image!
